Presented in Venice during the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, Voices, Amplified: A Manifesto brought together eleven artists from China, the United Kingdom and the United States. Through painting, moving image, digital media and other artistic forms, the exhibition explored ideas of voice, listening and individual expression across different cultural contexts.

Inspired by In Minor Keys, the curatorial framework of the 61st Venice Biennale, the exhibition focused on voices that are subtle and persistent yet not always immediately recognised. “Amplified” therefore referred not simply to making a voice louder, but to broader questions of what can be heard, who can be heard, and how individual experiences enter public perception and understanding.

The participating artists approached these questions through perspectives ranging from personal experience and cultural memory to social relationships and digital technology. Presented together, the works remained distinct while creating interconnected forms of expression and dialogue.

Curator Fang Ting Ting proposed viewing as a form of listening, through which encounters between artworks and audiences could develop into processes of understanding and exchange. Throughout the exhibition, visitors from different countries and cultural backgrounds engaged with the works through observation, discussion and conversation, generating multiple interpretations.

Through these encounters, the exhibition developed beyond a site of presentation into a platform where artists, artworks and audiences could connect, allowing different cultural experiences and individual voices to coexist and generate new forms of dialogue.
